Funk's Corner: Get Your Day Rolling, CHIKARA tonight, IPW:UK

Source: WRESTLEVIEW.COM

Funk's Corner
-Sometimes it just takes being with nice people to get your day rolling.

Marti and I had breakfast with Rocky Johnson and his wife Sheila at the Ocala, Hilton yesterday morning.

After attending "The Rock's" movie premier in Miami, Rocky and his wife Shelia were traveling up Interstate 75 through Ocala on the way to Missouri to visit their cotton farm as the harvest season is now here.

Coffee, scrambled eggs, bacon, waffles, grits and gravy along with some fresh fruit went down as we talked about old school wrestling and three hours went by fast.

We have photos of Rocky Johnson from yesterday at the Hilton and of course "The Rock" himself on our website at www.dory-funk.com.

Yesterday evening, WWE's Dean Malenko was a special guest at the Funking Conservatory to watch our wrestlers perform. Wrestlers performing for Malenko included Johnny Magnum, Blain Rage, Cory Squires, Shane Chung, Vickii Von, "The Claw" Claudia Reiff, Kim Dakota, Flyin' Ryan Air Mitchell with Sandii Skye and Elvis Sharp.

We have stories on Dean Malenko's father, Boris Malenko and photos of myself with Rocky Johnson and "The Rock" Dwayne Johnson on our website.

The next !BANG! TV taping, Support the Troops 20, "Funking Fall Fight" will feature former NWA World Champion and one of Bill Apter's top five wrestlers of all time, Jack Brisco.

In the Main Event, the "New Funking Conservatory World Champion", Shane Chung, will defend against the challenge of Blain Rage the Funking Conservatory !BANG! TV Champion.

New Women's Champion, Kim Dakota ( featured in a bikini photo review at http://www.dory-funk.com/ and will defend against the challenge of the "Claw", Claudia Reiff and Vickii Von.

More matches will be added to the card. For training schedules and ticket information, call 352-895-4658 or visit our website at http://www.dory-funk.com/.

It’s “Summers’ Time” as IPW:UK Return to Sittingbourne, Kent, On Sunday September 9th At The Wyvern Hall!

» On July 29th in front of a super-fun loving Sittingbourne audience, IPW:UK made their debut at the Wyvern Hall. With an amazing 30-minute Iron Fist main event, local fans went away knowing of new wrestling heroes such as Martin Stone, The Kartel, Stixx and many many more.

Speaking of Heroes, however, September 9th will be the evening of the Hated Heroes – LT Summers, Aviv Maayan, Billi Lightning and Andy Boy Simmonz, as all four men rule the roost. With five matches to fill, how will the Heroes decided to torment their enemies such as JC Thunder, Rus Rogers and Martin Stone?

For more information or to buy tickets head over to http://www.ipwuk.com/ right away!

  • The Hated Heroes Order Another Match: Tag Partners Collide!

» Last time in Sittingbourne it was the team of Iestyn Rees and Dave Sharp, both from Swindon’s 4FW, that were given the task of trying to inflict the first defeat on The Kartel since their return to IPW. After the match, the tension between the two men was high, with neither happy about the result.

In thinking about their matchmaking duties, therefore, The Hated Heroes have decided once again to bring both men back to Sittingbourne – but this time, AGAINST one another!

As a direct result of their loss to The Kartel last time out, current 4FW Champion Iestyn Rees will go head-to-head against a former 4FW Champion in ‘All Eyes On Me’ Dave Sharp with all to play for.

  • And therefore the current card for “Summers Time” on Sunday September 9th 2007 is:

» 5 matches as decided by The Hated Heroes combination of LT Summers, Andy Boy Simmonz, Billi Lightning and Aviv Maayan.

    Main Event Handicap Match
    - JC Thunder vs. The Thrillers (‘The Star Attraction’ Mark Haskins & ‘The Physical Specimen’ Joey Redman) & From Big Brother 8, Billi Lightning!

Pro Wrestling NOAH Open-weight Tag Title Match
    - Kentaro Shiga & Kishin Kawabata (c) vs. The Hated Heroes (Andy Boy Simmonz & LT Summers)

    - ‘The Guvnor’ Martin Stone vs. ‘Security’ Rus Rogers

    - ‘The Specialist’ Mark Sloan vs. Devilman

    - ‘All Eyes On Me’ Dave Sharp vs. ‘Irresistible’ Iestyn Rees

Your referees Chris Hatch and Andy Quildan, and of course, Master of Ceremonies is ‘Hardcore’ John Atkins!

Funk's Corner: Does Kurt Angle Have a Weakness, WCEW on Sept 9th, Marion, NC Show

    Source: WRESTLEVIEW.COM

    Funk's Corner
-Does Kurt Angle Have a Weakness?

Coming September 9th at "No Surrender," live on Pay Per View, Kurt Angle will defend the X Division Championship against the Black Machismo.

In a World Tag Team Championship Match, Kurt Angle and Sting will face Team PacMan.

In a World Heavyweight Championship Match, Kurt Angle will face the challenge of Abyss.

Leave it to TNA Wrestling to present something I have never seen before in professional wrestling. One man defending three different championships in three different matches.

    Is Kurt Angle that good?

Kurt Angle participated in amateur wrestling in both high school and college. In college, Kurt Angle was a two time NCAA Division I Champion. Kurt Angle was a 2-time USA Senior Freestyle champion and the 1988 USA International Federation of Associated Wrestling Styles Junior World Freestyle champion.

Kurt Angle then competed in the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia where he won a gold medal in heavyweight freestyle wrestling.

Kurt Angle won his gold medal in the heavyweight class defeating Iranian Abbas Jadidi by officials decision after wrestling to an 8 minute 1-1 draw.

Kurt Angle accomplished all this after being injured in the Olympic trials fracturing two vertebrae, herniating two discs and pulling four muscles leading him to laying claim to have won the Olympic Gold Medal with a, "Broken Freakin' Neck."

After joining TNA, Kurt Angle became the second wrestler to win the Triple Crown. Kurt Angle also makes appearances for the Japan Based Inoki Genome Federation where he is the current IWGP Third Belt Champion (recognized by IGF and TNA as the IWGP World Championship.

Is Kurt Angle good enough to appear in three main events and defend three separate championships against top competition in TNA?

Does Kurt Angle have a weakness?

In all of my years of professional wrestling, I have yet to see a cowboy who couldn't be throwed or a horse that couldn't be rode.

Over Confidence - It is difficult to find a weakness in the wrestling skills of Kurt Angle however at this stage of his career, Kurt Angle could be overconfident in his skills. In facing the likes of Abyss, Team PacMan and the Black Machismo, any mistakes could be costly.

Temper - Kurt Angle is so intense he can blow sky high over small things. A bad call by a referee, a fan's comment from the front row, even a "first take down" by an opponent can blow Kurt Angle's temper.

Fatigue - Wrestling the top talent of TNA in three consecutive matches even with rest in between, can sap energy and leave Kurt Angle vulnerable to failure in execution.

His Wife Karen - Kurt Angle didn't have his wife, Karen in his corner when he won the Olympic Gold Medal. What kind of a man, champion or world class athlete should need his wife to back him up?

Karen Angle needs to get herself back in the kitchen, take her shoes off, give her kids some toys instead of dragging them from airport to airport, wash the dirty dishes, get some dinner on the table, do the laundry, give Kurt the TV remote back and for goodness sake, clean the house up. Karen Angle needs to know her role.

Kurt Angle could very well slip up in his quest to headline three main events at Summer Slam live on Pay Per View Sunday September 9th and look for the cause not to be over confidence, loss of temper or fatigue. However the deciding factor whether he wins or loses could be the interference of his wife, Karen Angle in his professional career.

-Two New Champions at the Funking Conservatory

Two major title changes took place at last night's !BANG! TV Taping, Support the Troops 19, Hard Labor.

In the Women's three way championship match, Kim Dakota won when Claudia "The Claw" Reiff reached for the back of Vicki Von's hot pants and pulled them down to her ankles. The startled Vicki Von completely lost her balance and composure, then fell victim to a reverse cradle by Kim Dakota.

In the "Dirtiest Player in the Game" match, Cowboy Cory Squires used the "Rock Bottom" to put away Johnny Romano after an eye gouge, hair pull, bite to the fingers, low blow and outside interference by Blain Rage.

In an action packed match that would have amazed Jackie Chan, Flyin' Ryan "Air" Mitchell with Sandii Skye retained the Florida Championship belt with a victory over Elvis Sharp with the Pop Tarts, Kim Dakota and Vicki Von when the Pop Tarts distracted Elvis by fighting among themselves instead of taking care of Elvis. Flyin' Ryan took advantage of the situation winning with a Super Kick to the chin.

In a !BANG! TV Championship match, Blain Rage with the Pop Tarts in his corner won over former ECW wrestler, Hack Myers when Vicki Von caught the HackMan with a low blow from left field followed up with Blain Rage's finishing mover, the "Face Buster."

In the main event of the night, a Lumberjack rules match for the Funking Conservatory World hampionship, Shane Chung earned a stolen victory over Johnny Magnum when after two attempts to hold Magnum's shoulders to the mat, Shane got additional leverage with both feet on the second rope unbeknown to the referee yet in front of all the wrestling fans and lumberjacks. to get the pin ball and the Funking Conservatory World Championship belt.

As a result of the controversial ending, After the match was over, a spontaneous battle royal broke out between the lumberjacks and participants, Johnny Magnum and Shane Chung that ended in a combination pier six brawl and a five way catfight that culminated in Johnny Magnum stomping a mudhole in Cowboy Cory Squire's cowboy hat.

    STATE OF THE UNION #7

UIPW News for 03 Sept 2007

BIG CHANGES TO THE LINE-UP FOR "BORN AGAIN"

With just days to go before the UNION's debut event in Toronto, AUSTIN SHAW, the UIPW Head of Fighters Affairs, was reminded of just how true the phrase "Card subject to change" can be when he received some bad news from several of its Workers. First, CHRIS KOLE had to cancel his appearance at BORN AGAIN. Then, RAYMOND ROWE had to bow out. And finally, TOBY KLEIN is being advertised to wrestle for IWA: Mid-South on September 7, 8 and 9 and has become unreachable by UNION officials to either confirm or cancel his long-scheduled appearance in Toronto.

Shaw has taken this opportunity to recruit some new talent and re-shuffle the line-up for this debut event. First, Shaw contacted indy wrestling sensation "FABULOUS" JOHN McCHESNEY. Fans with elephant-like memories will recall that McChesney was the last Heavyweight champion of the original UNION back in 2004. The Fabulous One is now back in the UNION and looking to climb back to the top. He'll get that chance right away as McChesney will take on EL GENERICO in the evening's semi-main event.

Next, Austin Shaw placed a call to South Jersey to recruit "The New Generation Ace" RICKY LANDELL. Trained by STEVE CORINO, Landell has come into his own making appearances for groups such as Ring of Honor and Jersey All-Pro, successfully touring Japan, winning the AWA World Tag titles and now, joining the UNION. The brash young upstart will go one-on-one with Buffalo, NY's PEPPER PARKS at BORN AGAIN.

In addition, Shaw has scrambled the card a little to provide UNION fans' with even more excitement. Shaw has added another Northern Lights Cruiserweight Division match as EDDIE OSBOURNE will now face off against RIP IMPACT. With The HORNET and SHIIMA XION still scheduled to fight, the Northern Lights Division is getting a tremendous kick-off at BORN AGAIN.

Here's a rundown of the complete card...

    MAIN EVENT GRUDGE MATCH!!!

"The King of Old School" STEVE CORINO vs. STERLING JAMES KEENAN

PWG World Tag Team Champion EL GENERICO vs. IWC Super Indy Champion "Fabulous" JOHN McCHESNEY

NWA Empire Champion PEPPER PARKS vs. Zero-One Max U.S. Champion RICKY LANDELL

Debut of the Northern Lights Cruiserweight Division

    The HORNET vs. SHIIMA XION

Debut of the Northern Lights Cruiserweight Division

    RIP IMPACT vs. EDDIE OSBOURNE

    PWA Niagara: Uprising
    09-01-07

    PWA Niagara: Uprising
    Port Colborne
    Reeb House
    Attendance: 60+
    Ring Announcers: Maniac Mike, Hatguy
    Referees: Andrew Mollon, Alan Joe

The show started with Eric Everlast, Eddie Osbourne & the Sugar Twins coming to the ring. Osbourne got on the mic and said since Jessy Jones was banned from Port Colborne, the Generation had obtained the services of Lucha Sport to be their manager. Lucha Sport was a large masked guy dressed in green. His boots had the initials "JJ".

Pisto Pete's music started playing which prompted Lucha Sport to break into a dance that was both funny and disturbing. Pete said that Lucha Sport would have to wrestle if he wanted to be in PWA Niagara and called out Easy E to face him.

    1) Lucha Sport def. Easy E
Lucha Sport started the match by rolling around instead of locking up but was soon all blown up. Easy E took control until he ran into a boot and was pinned by Lucha who used his feet on the ropes for leverage

    2) Ice w/ Brodie Lee def. BJ Stardom w/ the Bodyguard, Gary Gambino.
Gambino didn't proof to be much of a bodyguard as he sat at ringside drinking beer with fans for much of the match. Brodie distracted the ref which gave Ice the opportunity to kick Stardom in the nards and get the pin.

Brodie got on the mic after the match and said since his opponent never showed up he would challenge someone in the audience. He picked Jason Phoenix who was watching the show with friends. Brodie claimed Phoenix had shown him no respect in the back when he said his hellos to the boys. Phoenix accepted the challenge after haggling over price. Brodie agreed that, should Phoenix win, Brodie would pay him "a hundred bucks, a lap dance and a beer."

    3) Brodie Lee w/ Ice def. Jason Phoenix
Fun match. Brodie used a handful of tights on a roll-up to get the pin

    4) New Tradition Championship:
Rip Impact def. Phil Latio to retain the title.
Absolutely hilarious performance by Phil Latio made this match a highlight of the night. Great crowd interaction and some damn fine action. Rip got the win after rolling through Phil's top rope crossbody. After the bell, Phil attacked Rip again with a DVD before stealing the title belt and walking out.

    5) The Sugar Twins (Zakk Atticus & Kris White) w/ Lucha Sport def. The Italianos (Tony Carbonie & Primo Carnera)
Great Match! Pinfall came after Lucha Sport distracted ref so the Sugar Twins could pull some nefarious deeds.

    6) Jennifer Blake def. Krystal Banks by DQ.
Good match made better by Banks uber-bitch vocal antics. (Some well timed profanity got one of the bigger pops of the night.) She got busted by the ref for punching Blake with a chain wrapped round her fist.

    7) Eric Everlast def. Ron Falco in a No DQ Match.
But he needed a knocked out referee and the interference of Eddie Osbourne to do it. The match was all over the place as Everlast and Falco fought through fans, into a playground and back. The bad guys beat on Falco after the bell until Pistol Pete showed up with a chair. Falco attacked Osbourne and the two brawled to the back. Everlast & Pete fought in the ring until Pete got clobbered with the chair. Needless to say it busted him open and he was helped to the back.

    8) Dangerboy Derek Wylde & Pepper Parks wrestled to a draw.
Awesome match. My pick for Match of the Night. Two good guys, they started with a handshake and 15 minutes later they ended with another. Fans and wrestlers asked for "5 more minutes" but the ref said "Next time." That led to a mutual agreement that next time will be No Time Limit.

    9) Niagara Championship Match:
Defending champ Eddie Osbourne w/ Lucha Sport def. Suicide Sean Ball by ref stoppage when he ruled that was Ball unable to defend himself or continue. Ball injured his knee landing an over-the-top-rope crossbody on Eddie. Osbourne brutally attacked Ball's knee for the rest of the match with Lucha Sport getting his shots in also.

After the match Eddie bailed from a charging Ron Falco who paused long enough to grab the mic and say Osbourne was his at the next show.

Then a whole bunch of guys attacked Sean Ball who was still laying on the mat. A bunch more guys ran out and it turned into a Battle Royal. I'm not sure how many people were in it or even who they were because I joined the match on Pistol Pete's invitation. By the time I entered bodies were already flying over the ropes. The Sugar Twins, Alan Joe, Easy E, Bat Martinez, Lucha Sport, Bang Bang Pete, Gary Gambino, Maniac Mike, Sebastian Sauve, Pistol Pete, myself and others entered the match. Eventually...

    10) Sebastian Suave won a Battle Royal to earn a PWA Niagara title shot of his choice.
